Bloonland, Alternative Artist Retreat, Learning and Media Centre in Nature
Bloonland is a non-profit project designed to be an oasis to the complications of modern life and to act as a meeting point for artists, teachers and creative people of all kinds. The project represents a desire to return to a simpler form of living but without abandoning the comforts and benefits of modern society. In essence, the project will reflect the best of both worlds.
Whereas most communities suffer from social stagnation, internal politics and increasing isolation from the rest of the world, Bloonland avoids these problems by offering only temporary stay to residents. With just a small central core of managers and volunteers, visitors may come and stay for a maximum of 3 months and the center itself will close in the winter to recharge and repair.
Whereas the working languages are English and Italian, the project is open to all nationalities
Overview of aims and philosophy:
- To create a creative space for artists to work and get inspired.
- To spread information and media for free.
- To enable low-cost learning.
Artist Retreats
We live in a society where a great deal of our creativity and inspiration is sacrificed by the need to pay for a roof over our heads and meet the bills. Creativity feeds off itself and so artists tend to congregate in towns and cities where they find the artistic community they seek but where costs are high. Artists all across the world hunger for a place to develop their work in peace and quiet and yet still have the creative simulus and community necessary to remain inspired. By providing a low-cost creative environment Bloonland meets these needs. We provide a simple living infrastructure close to nature and yet with enough media, materials and like-minded people for all kinds of artistic projects to flourish. Artists will be welcome to come and stay for 1-3 months and must apply via the website and phone interview to qualify. We only accept dedicated, motivated people who are ready to come and immerse themselves in their work, share their knowledge and go back to their regular lives recharged and refreshed.
Alternative Media Center
Bloonland is founded on the principle that information should be free. Be it music, writing or video, information is the right of everyone regardless of their spending capacity. The traditional channels of distribution are falling apart and the age of the internet has ensured that media is increasingly in the hands of us all. Bloonland will bring artists and producers together to work together on projects through the Road Junky label to be released for free. Using our audience base and reputation we provide a showcase for unknown artists and produce original, quality books, documentaries and music.
Low-Cost Courses
There are teachers of yoga, chi kung, dance, photography, writing, music and communication, to name but a few, who are ready to come and teach groups of students in low-cost courses. As Bloonland is non-profit we only need to charge for the costs of food, expenses and an honest wage for the teacher. Education and learning should be in the hands of everyone, not only those with the income to pay for it.
